Klayton is a multi-instrumentalist who runs FiXT Music, an independent record label. He's performed under a number of stage names (each sillier than the last), and has a number of music projects under his belt. His current projects include Celldweller, Circle of Dust, Scandroid, and FreqGen. However, he's also played under Argyle Park/AP2, Angeldust (along with Criss Angel), and others I'm probably forgetting.
I originally found out about Klayton's work back in November of 2019. I was struggling to find new artists to get into as I was getting tired to listening to the same three Pendulum albums over and over again. During this time, I was also trying to find music that would suit a story I was working on, and that's when I found a certain track by Celldweller.
Now Playing: Celldweller - End of an Empire - Precious One
And as you can imagine, once I heard that, I was hooked. Almost immediately, I was researching his other music, and as such, got into his other projects. After I got into Celldweller's End of an Empire, I was off to check out Scandroid. My first track was Writings on the Wall, which is funny because it only came out a month or so prior to me discovering Klayton. Anyway, it took me a while to get into Circle of Dust for reasons I'd prefer not to get into, but Machines of Our Disgrace quickly won me over.
When I'm not jamming out on Klay's modern stuff, I like to dig for more information on his early stuff. I've gone on multiple deep dives through his old websites (thank you, Internet Archive) snagging up pictures, graphics, etc. I've also found a few fansites here and there!
In doing this, I also discovered Criss Angel, and their old band, Angeldust. The CD cost me a bunch of cash, but it was very, very worth it. I also have a page where I've tirelessly transcribed the album, as a lot of the lyric sites I've found have got them entirely wrong, and my autistic ass would not rest until I corrected them. Or well... corrected them to the best of my ability. XD Here's a link!
... in no particular order :P...
Celldweller - Live Upon a Blackstar - Fadeaway (Live) ~ Ohhhhhh my God I love this song. And here I thought Fadeaway couldn't get any better! Turns out it can! When I first saw the concert film, I was absolutely blown away by this track. Besides the music itself though, I also fell in love with the backing footage. The costume design is incredible! *O*
Celldweller - Soundtrack For The Voices In My Head Vol. 2 - The End ~ This song made me cry when I first heard it. Welcome to the End was one of my favorite tracks off the 03 album, and this remix so does it justice. When I first clicked on it, I wasn't expecting it to be a remix, so it was such a pleasant surprise! The ending caught me off guard so bad, but like in the best way ever.
Scandroid - The Darkness - The End of Time ~ I'm not gonna lie, I've never really gotten into The Darkness & The Light. For whatever reason, the albums just don't interest me. However, the title of this song intrigued me enough to warrant a click, and boy am I glad it did! I can't help but dance in my chair whenever it comes on!
Brainchild - Mindwarp - Prayers of a Dead Man ~ Ahh, Mindwarp. AKA Brainchild, the Circle of Dust album. Still don't understand why he didn't just keep it titled Mindwarp, but hey! I'm not one to judge. This is my favorite song off that album! It's kinda funny, the lyric "my eyes drip blood red". Whenever I hear it, I'm reminded of edgy 13 years olds on deviantART making vent art with their furry OCs. *sigh* Good times.
Scandroid - (self titled) -Salvation Code ~ This song is the only reason I read Blackstar by Joshua Viola. However, I don't blame it for the pain and misery that book caused me. :P I find it really interesting how Red and Rezin are both chasing after a mysterious, seemingly almost divine, woman. For Red, he's after Aphelion. For Rezin, it's Venus. It makes me wish they did more with that, but unfortunately, they do not. Anyway! Salvation Code. I am hugging and kissing this song. With tongue. The hugging, of course.
Circle of Dust - Machines of Our Disgrace - Embracing Entropy (feat. Celldweller) ~ Now, there's a lot of songs I love from Machines of Our Disgrace, but this freakin' thing. Any of my friends could tell ya that Celldweller is my fave out of all Klayton's projects. So, a collab between my fave and a project I was trying to adjust to? It made for an excellent segue. Also it's so GOOD!!!!! *cries*
Scandroid - Monochrome - A Thousand Years ~ Warning, I'm gonna be a loser for a good minute. Not that I haven't been, considering the rest of this page. BUT ANYWAY! I like to listen to this song whenever I'm feeling sad and lonely, because while I know Red's singing about Aphelion, I like to imagine that he's singing about me. .-.; Cringe, I know, but I'm in love with a spiky-haired android. Besides, it's such a cute song! Who could blame me? Don't answer that.
Celldweller - (self titled) - Symbiont ~ This is the song that kept me sane through a reeeally bad breakup. I won't go into specifics, but this song hits real close to home. Not to mention it's overall just a really great song. It's also referenced in another one of my faves from this album, Welcome to the End.
Celldweller - Wish Upon A Blackstar - The Seven Sisters ~ Whenever I hear this song, I think about Kaine, the antagonist from Blackstar. I won't get into why, as that would contain spoilers for the book, but whatevs. :P
Circle of Dust - (self titled) - Nightfall (25th Anniversary Mix) ~ I'm picking the 25th Anniversary Mix because it has the best mixing out of all of the versions, also it's my list = my rules. Anyway, there's so much I love about this track. It just sounds so sinister! Oh, and I have a fun fact. The sample in the beginning - "Where are we going?" - "Into my imagination." - was referenced in the Criss Angel song, "Cocoon". I just thought that was neat. :D
Celldweller - Demo Vault Vol. 01 - Lucky (The very first demo of "The Lucky One") (2004) ~ Aaaand the award for world's longest track title goes to this hidden gem from the Demo Vault albums! As much as I love the track on WUAB, this demo's instrumental is awesome!
FreqGen - Future 1990 - Future 1991 ~ The sound in this song, and really in all the tracks available right now, are so vastly different from Klay's usual works, and so unqiue, that I immediately fell in love.
Celldweller - Klash-Up (Cinco de Mayo 2009 - Cellmate Mix) ~ I stumbled across this mashup while on one of my maaaany hunts through Klayton's old sites. I believe this was on FiXT's main site, obviously sometime in 2009. It was on a free stuff page. Amazingly enough, the Wayback Machine had the download archived! Heartbreaking this isn't up anywhere, because it's really fun to listen to!
Celldweller - Celldweller (10 Year Anniversary) - Waiting For So Long ~ The song is comprised of these lyrics: "I've been waiting for so long, now it's my time." Though it's a simple track, I could listen to the damn thing for hours on repeat and not get bored. Then again, I could do that with a bunch of others on this list. XD
Circle of Dust - Machines of Our Disgrace - Neophyte ~ This song inspired a looot of my Klayverse OCs! Particularly Dusty. Dusty is a Neophyte, an alien race of bird-human hybrids. He crash landed on Earth after his homeplanet of Aiphus was destroyed, and he was subjected to numerous excruciating experiments, until he finally broke free of the facility. He'll wrap his wings around you, never let you go. <3 If you'd like to read more about my birdies, click here!
Celldweller - Blackstar (Original Score) - Purified ~ I don't think any blurb of text I put here will cover just how awesome this freaking song is. Go listen to it. Now plz.
Celldweller - The Complete Cellout Vol. 01 - Frozen (Celldweller vs Blue Stahli) ~ It's a complete and utter shame that these two aren't on speaking terms anymore, because man do they make great music together. Frozen was already an amazing track, but this remix is just *chef kiss* PERFECT. Also the music video. It's really fun. Klay almost blinded himself for it. Go lookie.
Celldweller - End of an Empire - End of an Empire ~ As I listened to this album early on in my Klay days, it has a special place in my heart, and this song is no exception. It's seven minutes of pure heaven.
Celldweller - Live Upon A Blackstar - Ursa Minor (Live) ~ As awesome as the song is just listening to it, I think it hits harder watching Klay and Bret perform it. Excuse the poor quality. While the tracks on Soundtrack For The Voices In My Head Vol. 1 are great, they can't compare to this version.
Celldweller - Satellites - A Matter of Time ~ A lot of fans theorize that Into the Void, another song off of Satellites, was dedicated to Bret of Blue Stahli following their... *shrugs*. However, if there was any song I think would be dedicated to Bret, I would've assumed it'd be this one. Not that I personally think that's the case at all, and I think everyone's really rather paranoid about the whole thing. e_e It's nobody's business but theirs, y'know?
Celldweller - Satellites - Baptized In Fire ~ When I first heard this track, I really wasn't into it. Then again, it came out when I wasn't really into the whole metal scene, so anything sort of 'hard', I couldn't get into. That sparked a fun argument with a 14 year old who got mad at me for supposedly bashing it, but that's neither here nor there. :P Anyway, I find it fun that the lyric "Refining, purifying, I’ll never be the same" could be a callback to Switchback from Klay's self titled album.
Celldweller - Celldweller (10 Year Anniversary) - IRIA ~ Another bonus demo track from the 10 year anniversary album, it's a pretty simple track. Its lyrics are comprised of "Wait" and "I remember it all", but that doesn't stop it from being catchy as hell.
In my free time, I like to make 100x100 icons. As such, it was only a matter of time (haha Satellites joke haha) before that interest and this one collided. And so, here's a bunch of icons I've made! :D Free to use, however I'd like it if you'd let me know you're using them!
